I was prompted by a newspaper review to read this book. I do not recall having read other fiction by a Japanese writer so I did not know what to expect. Obviously, in reading translated fiction a good translation matters and , in that respect, this book for me is a 5star as at no point the text and dialogues feel stilted or unnatural. Admittedly, I am guessing, but I think that the translation has captured the spirit and tone of the original. It is indeed a detective story but the focus is no
